Rub-ons

I don't usually use rob-ons for a card but as you can see I have!  No stamping required with this one.  I've had these rub-ons sitting on my desk for a while but I just go for stamps first.

There's not much to this card as you can see but it looks great (well I think so! *wink*).

This card went to my best friends sister as she lives about two dozen houses away and both our boys go to pre-school together. 

Here is the flower up close. Just gorgeous. 

The sentiment is also a rub-on in the same pack.  See, no stamping.

Loads of Love

Here is a card I made for the brother of  baby Lilly in the previous post.  Fred and Oliver went to swimming lessons together and our families became good friends.  We even went to Disneyland Paris together.  That was a great long weekend.

Anyway, back to the card.  I didn't know what to do for Fred's card and I again went to the Idea Book & Catalogue for inspiration.  I didn't copy the card exactly, but I did pick the same colours.  I also added the spiral punch for something different.

I used my crayons to colour in the car and presents.  Luckily, the colours of the card stock is from the bold brights family and that is the only crayons I have (at the moment!).  I must add the rest to my next order as I seem to using the crayons a bit more recently.

Anyway, I hope Fred likes his card.

Nursery Necessities

Our friends in the UK had a baby girl a few weeks ago so I needed to make a card for them.

I really like how this turned out.  Thank goodness for the Idea Book & Catalogue because this is where this card came from!  If you are ever stuck and don't know what kind of card you want to make, just take a look in the catalogue current or past ones and the inspiration will come.

Another quick and easy card to make - great for mass production as a baby announcement (will have to keep this is in mind come September!).

I used my white craft ink for the big star with clear embossing powder but I should have used white powder to make it stand out a bit more.  I still like it though but must remember for next time.  My bow turned out pretty good too (if it do say so myself!).  I can't always get a good bow when using the wider ribbon.

Here is the card I made using yesterday's resist technique compare.

I went with the gloss card stock in the end.

What do you think?  A very quick and easy card to make if you need one in a hurry.

I have my friend's birthday coming up very soon (can't be too specific as I don't know if she reads my blog!) so I'll be giving this to her.  I hope she likes it.

Crayon Resist Technique

I always thought that to do the crayon resist technique, you had to use gloss card stock!  Well, while watching Dawn's video HERE, I discovered there is another way to do it.

Dawn uses whisper white card stock with the whisper white watercolour wonder crayon (in the neutrals pack).  Naturally, I had to give it a go!  I also had to see what the difference would be using the gloss card stock with a wax based crayon.

Here is the result.

The card on the left is using the whisper white card stock and the one on the right uses the gloss card stock.

Both work with this technique, but you can see a slight difference in colour.  The gloss card stock is much brighter while the whisper white card stock is more subtle.  I used Old Olive and More Mustard ink with my sponges.

This is the gloss card stock up close.  You can see how bright the white resist is.  If you are wanting the brighter look then go with the gloss and use the wax crayon like I have here.

This is the whisper white card stock up close.  While the resist works, it isn't quite as bright as the gloss.  Remember I am using the watercolour crayon here and not the wax crayon.  I haven't tried using the wax crayon on whisper white.

Now I just have to make up a card using the resist technique.  I'll be back tomorrow to show that.

P.S. - thank you for the lovely comments regarding yesterday's post.  The morning sickness is getting much better (touch wood!) so it looks like it is coming to an end.

News

My blogging has been non-existent this week as has my time stamping and there is a good reason for it - I promise. 

It is called morning sickness!!  Oh yes, I am having a baby.  For those of you that don't know, we have a 4 year old boy, Oliver who is looking forward to seeing his 'baby brother'.  Now we have no idea what sex the baby is but it looks like he is wanting a brother!  We have talked with him about the sex of the baby and his response to us asking 'what if you have a sister' is - "I will look after it".  Then he said, "I'm very clever, I have brains!"  ROFLOL  Although when we pointed out that the baby was in my tummy, he asked if I had eaten it!!  LOL.  I never experienced any sickness at all with Oliver so this is all new to me and I'm not liking it at all.  It is just amazing how different pregnancies can be.  Hubby is convinced it is a girl but my friend had two girls and both pregnancies were totally different so I guess we will have to wait and see.  I am starting to feel better as the week has gone on and as I am in my 12th week, I'm hoping it will all end soon.

Unfortunately, while my gp was giving me a check up, he found I have a heart murmur.  Not effecting me at all but it can occur during pregnancy.  I went to see a cardiologist and he was a little shocked to find I have a mitral valve prolapse {Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) occurs when abnormalities in the mitral valve allow it to flop (i.e., to prolapse) back into the left atrium as the left ventricle contracts, thus allowing a certain amount of backflow of blood (i.e. regurgitation) from the ventricle to the atrium. In general, the abnormality that allows prolapse to occur is a congenital excess of tissue on the valve, making it "floppy." }  It does mean that when I have dental work, I will need antibiotics as well as when I give birth.  Funnily enough, my mum has exactly the same problem.

Anyway, all is good and baby has a good hearbeat with everything where it should be.  We got a clear picture of the legs and the profile of the face which was great.  I think it was nap time during the scan so it was quick and easy to get all the measurements done.

Bundle Of Joy

The following cards use Bundle Of Joy which is another set that will retire.  Boo hoo!

As you can see I have used it many times and I think set I will never part with.  I just think it is so cute.

 This was a sketch challenge I did back in February '08 - wow a long time ago now.  It was a sketch challenge from Jen Del Muro.  I must get back into my challenges as I really did enjoy them.  

Another Beate sketch challenge.  I LOVE pink (in case you hadn't noticed!) and I think the soft pink colours are best for baby cards.  This I made for my good friend who lives in Mexico when she had her baby girl a year ago last week. 

This card I made for our friends Neill & Kath who had a baby boy (of course).  I found this sketch on SCS and loved it so I have used it a number of times now.

Bushfire Appeal Update

From Stampin' Up! this morning.

Bold Butterfly

I think Bold Butterfly was one of the first sets I bought (before I became a demonstrator!). I made this card for one of Beate's sketch challenges, back when I did a lot of sketch challenges. 

Ah, the faux tile technique!  This was my very first attempt and I don't think I have done it since!  LOL

Bold Butterfly also has a matching wheel (Flitting By).

Crab & Company

Gosh, I made this card back in December 2007! 

Crab & Company is another set that will retire come the 31st March. 

This Christmas crab is from when I hosted a cyberstamp night and this was the sketch challenge (I think it is a "Taylor" sketch if I am remembering correctly).  The DSP (Designer Series Paper) that you see is also retiring along with all the other DSP.

The retired stamps & accessories will only be available while stocks lasts.  There are already a few things that have sold out so get in quick to avoid disappointment.
